The British Transport Police are stepping up their investigation and making extensive use of CCTV footage following an incident that saw the Ayr to Glasgow Central service collide with a bike that had been thrown on the line between Milliken Park and Johnstone, Renfrewshire.
According to a news report in the local media, the mountain bike was thrown from a footbridge above the railway line and the incident caused travel disruption. The train was evacuated at Johnstone and the passengers transferred to replacement buses before the train was eventually removed from the line.
Given the extent and nature of this incident, it actually had quite a negative knock-on effect, with services to and from Glasgow Central disrupted for hours afterwards.
