A local authority has revealed plans to increase its spending for CCTV surveillance as part of a wider plan to tackle crime in the area, a recent news report has been able to reveal.

The North Lincolnshire Council’s spending in 2016-17 on closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) is to be increased to £267,000.

A council spokeswoman said: “The base budget for CCTV has remained stable over the years, however spends on the cameras vary from year to year.

“For example, one year we may need to carry out maintenance on cameras and other years we might not. Some years we have had additional capital funding when specific new schemes have been identified so our capital budget varies and our revenue budget fluctuates.”
