A local council in London is set enter into a multi-million pound CCTV deal with neighbouring boroughs in order to spread the maintenance costs for their respective surveillance systems, a news report in the local media was able to reveal.
The Waltham Forest Council’s cabinet is likely to approve a joint contract with Newham, Redbridge and Enfield for the maintenance of the camera network in the borough.
A four-year contract worth £7.4million would be available following a tendering process, with the total spend being divided between the four authorities.
The joint venture would improve community safety and increase value for money, a report received by cabinet members suggested: “The tender will allow the London Boroughs of Waltham Forest, Newham, Enfield and Redbridge to provide CCTV reactive and planned maintenance services for Public Space Community Safety and traffic enforcement purposes for a four-year period. An in-house option was considered however this is proved to be impractical and the associated costs were prohibitive.”
