Facial recognition CCTV cameras with advanced AI software to be rolled out across Dubai

A massive network of AI-powered facial recognition CCTV cameras will be deployed across Dubai in the lead up to Expo 2020, Dubai police representatives have revealed.

The high-tech cameras will reportedly run AI-powered facial recognition software to allow them to identify potential criminals and will be fitted with speakers so that they are able to issue on-the-spot, verbal warnings.

“Criminal activity-related cameras will capture footage of people involved in crimes, recognise their faces and analyse the crime” Brigadier Jamal Al Muhairi, deputy director of administrative affairs at Dubai Police, told a local newspaper.

The system, that is expected to be rolled out over 2018 and 2019, will also be able to track traffic violations, thanks to license plate readers built in to the cameras.
The heavy shift towards increased security comes as Dubai expects as many as 25 million visitors to visit the city for Expo 2020.
