Deployment of CCTV surveillance system leads to massive drop in attacks at crime hotspot

A massive drop in the number of attacks recorded alongside a Bedfordshire crime hotspot was achieved with the help of a new CCTV surveillance system deployed in the area, a recent news report has been able to reveal.

Dog Kennel Path in Dunstable and Houghton Regis hit the spotlight in 2012 after a couple of attacks on heavily pregnant women. However, the former hotspot for robberies has been transformed by the work of Central Bedfordshire Council alongside Dunstable and Houghton Regis Town Councils.

In 2012 more than £250,000 was invested in the scheme to make the path safer and more attractive.

Part of the investment included the installation of state-of-the-art CCTV surveillance, while the Community Safety Partnership has given a number of areas facelifts by removing graffiti, litter and overgrown plants.

The constant hard work from all parties involved has resulted in the number of recorded crimes dropping by 80% whilst usage has also increased.
