CCTV system in Diss set for expansion

The public CCTV system in Diss, Norfolk, is set to expand in order to tackle the ongoing phenomenon of anti-social behaviour close to one of the town’s main public amenities, a recent news report in the local media has been able to reveal.

Diss Town Council voted during a full council meeting held last month to contribute the funding for the installation of a new CCTV camera overlooking Rectory Meadow, adding to the initial set of ten cameras currently up and running through Diss town centre.

At the meeting, some councillors determined Rectory Meadow was an area that “should be enjoyed by all”, with the caveat that if the camera proved ineffective, an alternative location would be considered.

This will add to the cameras now in place at Chapel Street, Mere Street, Market Hill, Market Place, Park Road, St Nicholas Street and select car parks in Diss, along with an accompanying free wi-fi network.

The footage is being monitored by a team of volunteers made of representatives from the town council and local businesses.
