CCTV services in Dyfed-Powys to go under scrutiny
Comments Off on CCTV services in Dyfed-Powys to go under scrutiny
The CCTV systems installed across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Powys are set to go under a serious review in an attempt to determine their effectiveness and the value they deliver to local communities.
The Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) will review the CCTV services, which were initially set up in order to cut crime but have not been able to provide a consistent level of quality and effectiveness, a news report in the local media can reveal.
Local authorities are under significant pressure in terms of available budgets, which means that the use of CCTV services and the available funding is coming under scrutiny.
The PCC will work with Dyfed-Powys’s four county councils to review CCTV provision and will consider existing evidence of its effectiveness, the potential for improved or different technology to reduce crime, opportunities for more flexible monitoring and short-term options for greater consistency and flexibility.
