The Renfrewshire council, near Glasgow, has just revealed plans to overhaul its entire CCTV surveillance system, with the future £1.3m investment going towards upgrading systems which focus on the town centres of Paisley, Johnstone and Renfrew.

According to a news report, the system to expand to take in towns and villages across the area. A new control room, dubbed a “CCTV and community safety hub,” is planned but its location is yet to be decided, with various options being considered, including the local council HQ and a building owned by the newly established Police Scotland.

Councillor Tommy Williams, housing and community safety convener, said: “Renfrewshire’s new CCTV hub is on time, on budget and will deliver a significant boost to the existing community safety approach in Paisley, Johnstone and Renfrew.”
