  1. CCTV Surveillance Cameras with Built-in Temperature Sensors to Tackle the COVID-19 Across UK Office Buildings

Comments Off on CCTV Surveillance Cameras with Built-in Temperature Sensors to Tackle the COVID-19 Across UK Office Buildings

CCTV Surveillance Cameras with built-in temperature sensors might be deployed across large office buildings in an attempt to prevent the spread of the dreaded COVID-19 Coronavirus, a recent news report has been able to suggest.

These smart “Coronavirus” CCTV cameras would potentially relay data back to the building’s security personnel to help isolate those with higher than normal temperature – a key sign of Coronavirus.

“Building managers are facing a nightmare with Coronavirus”, says Jonathan Ratcliffe from Offices.co.uk, “One person could potentially infect hundreds meaning the building would have to close for weeks.”

“Automating the detection process to keep those with signs of the virus is the best form of defence to protect against large offices being shut down completely. We will definitely see this technology used in large banks and financial institutions in the City” he added.

Comments Off on New CCTV surveillance systems deployed across Pembrokeshire

Multiple new CCTV surveillance systems have been deployed and gone live across Pembrokeshire in a bid to reduce crime in the county, a recent news report in the local media has been able to suggest.

Over 150 state of the art HD CCTV cameras with 25x optical zoom and 360 degrees turning capability have now been installed in 24 towns across the force area. The Cameras are now live in Saundersfoot, Milford Haven, Haverfordwest, Tenby, Pembroke, Pembroke Dock while Narberth’s cameras are set to go live in the Spring.

The cameras are monitored from a suite located in the Force Communications Centre, where all emergency and less urgent calls for police support are received. The cameras are proactively monitored by a team of four CCTV Operators who are overseen by a CCTV Coordinator.

CCTV footage has already proven crucial evidence in police investigations. The quality of the footage has been so compelling, some suspects have pleaded guilty to the offences they were accused of.

Police and Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn said: “I am really pleased that the CCTV project has come to fruition and is now completed. I am very grateful to see the force responding to the pledge I made to reintroduce a CCTV infrastructure in the Dyfed-Powys Police force area.

“It’s all about making sure our communities are as safe and secure as possible and it is very encouraging to see the positive impact the CCTV infrastructure, its centralised monitoring suite and our team of CCTV operators are having on policing throughout the force.”

  3. Number plate recognition cameras to help prevent parking ‘abuse’ at Lancaster hospital

Comments Off on Number plate recognition cameras to help prevent parking ‘abuse’ at Lancaster hospital

New number plate recognition cameras are set to be deployed at hospitals across Lancaster and the South Lakes as part of a crackdown on those abusing the current parking system, a recent news report in the local media has been able to suggest.

The Trust Board of University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, which operates Royal Lancaster Infirmary, is bringing ANPR to the city hospital due to its ongoing issues with visitors “abusing” the current pay and display ticket system.

Foluke Ajayi, Chief Operating Officer at the trust, explained: “While the introduction of ANPR will not create any additional spaces, it will help deter people from abusing the current situation by paying for a pay and display ticket and then leaving their car for a long period of time, or not paying at all to park on Trust premises.”

It comes after ANPR systems were introduced to Royal Preston and Chorley hospitals in 2019, with operator ParkingEye receiving a number of complaints about how the system has operated. Chorley MP Sir Lindsay Hoyle, the now Speaker of the House of Commons, also publicly voiced his concern over the system.

Mr Ajayi admitted that the move to bring the system to Lancaster, as well as Furness General Hospital and Westmorland General Hospital, “may be controversial” due to issues that have occurred at other locations, but added that the trust is introducing a number of policies to reduce those with a bad experience of using ANPR car parks.

Comments Off on CCTV systems across South Kesteven record 2,421 incidents and lead to 548 arrests

The CCTV surveillance systems in Grantham and across the district have recorded 2,421 incidents that were reported to police since April 1 last year, leading to 548 arrests, a recent news report in the local media has been able to suggest.

The figures were revealed as the CCTV system across the district, which is based in Grantham, was given an official accreditation.

South Kesteven District Council’s CCTV team has received a one-year Certificate of Compliance after its CCTV monitoring operation was found to comply with the national code of practice.

An independent assessor carried out a review before assuring the surveillance camera commissioner, Tony Porter, that SKDC’s operation of the system fully complies with his requirements.

Cabinet member for commercial and operations Councillor Peter Moseley said: “The cameras give residents peace of mind and help our partners in law enforcement to increase public safety and reduce crime across the wider area.

“We welcome the independent scrutiny of our CCTV operations and I am delighted we have received this recognition. It is a tribute to the hard work of our CCTV team who play a significant role in crime prevention.”

The certificate provides reassurance to the public that the cameras are effectively managed and that information gathered is used appropriately. The code of practice aims to balance the need for cameras in public places with individuals’ rights to privacy.

  5. The Met officially deploys Live Facial Recognition (LFR) technology

Comments Off on The Met officially deploys Live Facial Recognition (LFR) technology

The Metropolitan Police Service has recently announced that it will officially begin the operational use of Live Facial Recognition (LFR) technology across specific locations in London.

According to the Met statement, the use of live facial recognition technology will be intelligence-led and will help tackle serious crime, including serious violence, gun and knife crime, child sexual exploitation and help protect the vulnerable.

Assistant Commissioner Nick Ephgrave, said: “This is an important development for the Met and one which is vital in assisting us in bearing down on violence. As a modern police force, I believe that we have a duty to use new technologies to keep people safe in London. Independent research has shown that the public support us in this regard. Prior to deployment we will be engaging with our partners and communities at a local level.

“We are using a tried-and-tested technology, and have taken a considered and transparent approach in order to arrive at this point. Similar technology is already widely used across the UK, in the private sector. Ours has been trialled by our technology teams for use in an operational policing environment.”

The Met will begin operationally deploying LFR at locations where intelligence suggests we are most likely to locate serious offenders. Each deployment will have a bespoke ‘watch list’, made up of images of wanted individuals, predominantly those wanted for serious and violent offences.

CCTV Surveillance – The experts in deploying Facial Recognition CCTV systems

The Facial Recognition CCTV solution supplied by CCTV Surveillance dynamically compares images of individuals from incoming video streams against those stored in a predefined access control list and immediately sends alerts when a positive match occurs.

The technology yields a very good level of performance despite partial occlusions of the face, the use of glasses, scarves or caps, changes of facial expression, and moderate rotations of the face. Moreover, it does not allow users to be impersonated using photographs.

This biometric access control technology is the perfect solution to control the access to restricted security areas, especially since we’re talking about a completely automated system that requires very little interaction with the operator.

Our Facial Recognition CCTV system can be easily integrated with existing ID management products and enables administrators to easily create Whitelists/Blacklists for specific areas, while subjects can be very easily enrolled from one or more photographs.

The system fully supports runtime alarm management, is highly tunable (control based on time-frames, sequentially, etc) and even allows alarms to be exported to common formats (PDF, Excel) and remote devices (mobile, PDA, tablet, security control centre).

  6. New facial recognition system do be deployed at US airport

Comments Off on New facial recognition system do be deployed at US airport

Facial recognition technology is set to be deployed at an US airport as part of a 45-day pilot of biometric screening technologies to help U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirm identities of departing passengers, a recent news report has been able to suggest.

The scanners are being tested at three gates at Philadelphia International Airport, which became part of a pilot program to use facial recognition technology, also known as Biometric Exit Screening, to confirm the identity of international travelers. Biometric screening is designed to verify travelers’ identities by cross-checking facial scans with photos already on file with the federal government.

The 45-day pilot will take place at three international gates to help U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirm identities of departing passengers.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has been mandated by federal law to use biometric exit screenings for foreign nationals (excluding Canadian citizens who don’t require a visa to enter the U.S. and diplomatic and government visa holders), according to an airport release.

“We are excited to welcome this new technology to the airport,” said airport CEO Chellie Cameron. “Working with our partners at CBP and our airlines will ensure our continued dedication to safety and security.”

  7. ANPR System Replace Rising Bollards in Cambridge’s Silver Street

Comments Off on ANPR System Replace Rising Bollards in Cambridge’s Silver Street

The troublesome rising bollards in Silver Street, Cambridge, have been replaced by an ANPR system that’s already proved its effectiveness, a news report in the local media can reveal.

Restricted access in Silver Street has been in place since August 2003, but the rising bollards which caused many a driver to get stuck on them while trying to bypass traffic restrictions have been replaced by a more subtle, yet equally effective solution – “bus gates” using ANPR technology.

The gates use Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras to capture unauthorised traffic going through them.

Cllr Mathew Shuter, Cambridgeshire County Council’s highways and infrastructure committee chairman, said: “This new bus gate on Silver Street will provide a more effective way of managing the existing traffic restrictions, support buses services, ease congestion and improve air quality.”

Bus gates are already in operation on four other sites in Cambridge city centre – on Station Road, Bridge Street, Emmanuel Road and Regent Street/St Andrews Street.

In the last financial year more than 60,000 penalty notices were issued to motorists who failed to acknowledge the restricted access signs at the bus lanes. The change to ‘bus gates’ was driven by a need to replace rising bollards which are expensive to run and have outdated technology.

  8. New CCTV camera system to be deployed in Halesowen town centre

Comments Off on New CCTV camera system to be deployed in Halesowen town centre

Halesowen town centre is likely to become a lot safer following the deployment of state-of-the-art wireless CCTV surveillance cameras costing more than £30k, a recent news report in the local media has been able to suggest.

Halesowen BID is funding the extra CCTV cameras, further to the upgrade recently carried out by Dudley Council.

Work to install high-definition wireless cameras, which will cover the whole of the town centre including the church yard, service yards and subways, providing seamless coverage, is set to begin next Monday.

The move is designed to clamp down on anti-social behaviour, shoplifting, drug use, fly-tipping and low-level crime to improve public safety.

The camera footage will be fed back to Cornbow Shopping Centre, where it will be monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by security staff.

The system will cover every inch of the town centre, including across the church yard, service yards and subways.

Surveillance cameras will also cover Borough Court on Grammar School Lane, and Vine Lane Centre/ Centre Court where the BID has commercial business members.

BID manager Vicky Rogers said: “The investment has come about following a recent survey conducted, which showed that one of the main concerns members of the public have when visiting town centres is public safety and security. “The state-of-the-art camera system will help to eradicate antisocial behaviour and low level crime as well as fly-tipping that has been reported in service yard areas across the town.

“We are living in an era of ‘big brother is watching you’ and if this means we keep our community safe then so be it.

“The project has been welcomed by members of the BID and will make a real difference to the local people and traders too.”

  9. World’s Largest Facial Recognition System to be deployed in India, report reveals

Comments Off on World’s Largest Facial Recognition System to be deployed in India, report reveals

India plans to build the world’s largest facial recognition system as part of a very ambitious plan to modernize the police force and make it easier to catch criminals and track down missing persons, the country’s National Crime Records Bureau, which is organizing bids for this proposed facial recognition system, has revealed.

As outlined in a 172-page bid document, the new facial recognition system must meet a number of important guidelines. First and foremost, it must be able to recognize images from a diverse range of sources, such as CCTV cameras, mobile handheld devices used by Indian law enforcement officers, and even photos from local newspapers.

Secondly, the facial recognition system needs to be integrated into the various criminal databases used by Indian police stations, such that it becomes much easier to find, track or apprehend suspects anywhere in the country.

Moreover, the new facial recognition system must be able to compensate for any of the various factors – such as plastic surgery, scars, beards, or tattoos – that might be used by criminals to obscure their appearance.

The scale and scope of the new facial recognition system, as might be imagined, is massive. It will apply to all 29 states and 7 union territories of India, and will eventually be scaled up to include images of all 1.3 billion people living in India. It will also likely require rapid deployment of CCTV cameras across India, especially in densely populated urban centres.

  10. Rapid-deployment mobile CCTV surveillance systems can help crack down on crime and antisocial behaviour in remote locations

Comments Off on Rapid-deployment mobile CCTV surveillance systems can help crack down on crime and antisocial behaviour in remote locations

Rapid-deployment mobile CCTV surveillance systems can prove to be extremely useful for cracking down on crime in antisocial behaviour in remote locations and rural areas, where installing a permanent CCTV system would not be possible due to budgetary constraints.

This is exactly the case in Australia, where ten mobile CCTV cameras have been deployed across the Northern Territory in antisocial behaviour hotspots and in front of bottleshops in a bid to detect and deter secondary supply of alcohol.

The Government is fighting alcohol-related crime through a suite of measures including sweeping alcohol reforms, more frontline officers and stronger police powers to shut down bottleshops caught selling alcohol irresponsibly.

Placement of mobile CCTV in front of bottleshops will further complement the work of the 75 Police Auxiliary Liquor Inspectors and Alcohol Policing Unit by assisting with the identification and prosecution of those caught doing the wrong thing.

Seven additional support staff are being recruited to assist with the monitoring of cameras and to analyse alcohol-related data to assist with deployment.
