  1. ANPR System Replace Rising Bollards in Cambridge’s Silver Street

Comments Off on ANPR System Replace Rising Bollards in Cambridge’s Silver Street

The troublesome rising bollards in Silver Street, Cambridge, have been replaced by an ANPR system that’s already proved its effectiveness, a news report in the local media can reveal.

Restricted access in Silver Street has been in place since August 2003, but the rising bollards which caused many a driver to get stuck on them while trying to bypass traffic restrictions have been replaced by a more subtle, yet equally effective solution – “bus gates” using ANPR technology.

The gates use Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras to capture unauthorised traffic going through them.

Cllr Mathew Shuter, Cambridgeshire County Council’s highways and infrastructure committee chairman, said: “This new bus gate on Silver Street will provide a more effective way of managing the existing traffic restrictions, support buses services, ease congestion and improve air quality.”

Bus gates are already in operation on four other sites in Cambridge city centre – on Station Road, Bridge Street, Emmanuel Road and Regent Street/St Andrews Street.

In the last financial year more than 60,000 penalty notices were issued to motorists who failed to acknowledge the restricted access signs at the bus lanes. The change to ‘bus gates’ was driven by a need to replace rising bollards which are expensive to run and have outdated technology.

  3. New ANPR parking system to be implemented at Warwick Hospital

Comments Off on New ANPR parking system to be implemented at Warwick Hospital

A new parking system that employs ANPR technology to automatically read the number plates of vehicles entering and leaving the car park is set to be deployed at Warwick Hospital, a recent news report in the local media has been able to suggest.

The new system will come into force at Warwick on December 16. It uses specialized cameras and software to take note of one’s number plate as they enter the car park.

Upon leaving, the motorist enters their number plate at a pay machine which then tells them how much to pay dependant on how long their stay has been.

A spokesperson from the South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust said: “As part of the Trust’s investment in car parking, a new ticketless payment system: Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) is being introduced to both our patients and visitors car parks on Monday, December 16.

“The Trust is always looking to enhance patient experience through numerous initiatives and developments which is why Warwick Hospital has introduced Automatic Number Plate Recognition.

“Combined with improved car park monitoring and management, ANPR will help provide a secure and efficient service for our patients and workforce.

CCTV SURVEILLANCE – EXPERT SUPPLIERS OF ANPR SYSTEMS

ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) is a highly accurate system that uses OCR (or Optical Character Recognition) technology to accurately identify the numbers and letters on a number plate.

After identifying the number plates on any vehicle, ANPR systems can easily log the date, time and location of the vehicle, and proceed to carry out an action based on the data (save the information in a database for retrieval at a later time, issue an alert should the plates match against a specific database, open a gate, etc.).

While ANPR is commonly associated with law enforcement use (speed ticketing, congestion area charging, identification of stolen vehicles, etc.), the system has numerous applications designed for private use.

By installing ANPR cameras at a car park’s entrance and exit and checking number plates against an existing Access Control database, organizations can rest assured that only authorized vehicles are able to access their premises. Plus, with ANPR and automatic barriers, access to any car park can be significantly improved and streamlined.

Whether your site only requires a simple system with a single PC and scanner or you’re looking for a fully integrated solution spanning a large premises, CCTV Surveillance will be able to provide you the necessary assistance in choosing the ANPR system that best suits your requirements.

  4. World’s Largest Facial Recognition System to be deployed in India, report reveals

Comments Off on World’s Largest Facial Recognition System to be deployed in India, report reveals

India plans to build the world’s largest facial recognition system as part of a very ambitious plan to modernize the police force and make it easier to catch criminals and track down missing persons, the country’s National Crime Records Bureau, which is organizing bids for this proposed facial recognition system, has revealed.

As outlined in a 172-page bid document, the new facial recognition system must meet a number of important guidelines. First and foremost, it must be able to recognize images from a diverse range of sources, such as CCTV cameras, mobile handheld devices used by Indian law enforcement officers, and even photos from local newspapers.

Secondly, the facial recognition system needs to be integrated into the various criminal databases used by Indian police stations, such that it becomes much easier to find, track or apprehend suspects anywhere in the country.

Moreover, the new facial recognition system must be able to compensate for any of the various factors – such as plastic surgery, scars, beards, or tattoos – that might be used by criminals to obscure their appearance.

The scale and scope of the new facial recognition system, as might be imagined, is massive. It will apply to all 29 states and 7 union territories of India, and will eventually be scaled up to include images of all 1.3 billion people living in India. It will also likely require rapid deployment of CCTV cameras across India, especially in densely populated urban centres.

CCTV Surveillance – The experts in deploying Facial Recognition CCTV systems

The Facial Recognition CCTV solution supplied by CCTV Surveillance dynamically compares images of individuals from incoming video streams against those stored in a predefined access control list and immediately sends alerts when a positive match occurs.

The technology yields a very good level of performance despite partial occlusions of the face, the use of glasses, scarves or caps, changes of facial expression, and moderate rotations of the face. Moreover, it does not allow users to be impersonated using photographs.

This biometric access control technology is the perfect solution to control the access to restricted security areas, especially since we’re talking about a completely automated system that requires very little interaction with the operator.

Our Facial Recognition CCTV system can be easily integrated with existing ID management products and enables administrators to easily create Whitelists/Blacklists for specific areas, while subjects can be very easily enrolled from one or more photographs.

  5. Rapid-deployment mobile CCTV surveillance systems can help crack down on crime and antisocial behaviour in remote locations

Comments Off on Rapid-deployment mobile CCTV surveillance systems can help crack down on crime and antisocial behaviour in remote locations

Rapid-deployment mobile CCTV surveillance systems can prove to be extremely useful for cracking down on crime in antisocial behaviour in remote locations and rural areas, where installing a permanent CCTV system would not be possible due to budgetary constraints.

This is exactly the case in Australia, where ten mobile CCTV cameras have been deployed across the Northern Territory in antisocial behaviour hotspots and in front of bottleshops in a bid to detect and deter secondary supply of alcohol.

The Government is fighting alcohol-related crime through a suite of measures including sweeping alcohol reforms, more frontline officers and stronger police powers to shut down bottleshops caught selling alcohol irresponsibly.

Placement of mobile CCTV in front of bottleshops will further complement the work of the 75 Police Auxiliary Liquor Inspectors and Alcohol Policing Unit by assisting with the identification and prosecution of those caught doing the wrong thing.

Seven additional support staff are being recruited to assist with the monitoring of cameras and to analyse alcohol-related data to assist with deployment.

  6. New £200,000 CCTV surveillance camera system goes live across Inverclyde

Comments Off on New £200,000 CCTV surveillance camera system goes live across Inverclyde

A new CCTV surveillance camera system worth an estimated £200,000 has been deployed across Inverclyde, a recent news report in the local media has been able to suggest.

The new system, funded and operated by Inverclyde Council and Police Scotland features state of the art 4G technology, with images from the cameras being stored in a data cloud, and also boasts mobile cameras.

Councillor Michael McCormick, convener of the council’s environment and regeneration committee, said: “We are taking an innovative approach by using a 4G system rather than a radio or fibre-optic network.

“It will be fast and flexible and allow us to deploy cameras where they’re most needed without having to run cables from the camera to the monitoring suite.

“There is an ongoing problem with fly-tipping, for example, and this new system means that we will be able to quickly install cameras at locations where, up until now, dumb dumpers have been safe from surveillance.”

The system has 40 fixed cameras and four mobile ones.

The majority are located in town centres or at busy points on the road network and rather than transmitting along a fixed cable to the CCTV monitoring suite at Greenock Police Station, the cameras now record images to the cloud using the 4G mobile network and can extract clips when they are needed

  7. Thermal cameras and radar systems can help bolster perimeter protection and security

Comments Off on Thermal cameras and radar systems can help bolster perimeter protection and security

Thermal cameras paired with ground radar systems are some of the best solutions to enforce perimeter security as they enable security personnel to be alerted even before a suspect reaches an organization’s actual perimeter.

When safeguarding mission critical sites, radar solutions paired with thermal imaging cameras are increasingly becoming the solutions of choice for perimeter surveillance and security.

Effective for outdoor, rugged environments, ground-based radar systems utilize high frequency radio waves to detect moving objects — including vehicles and potential intruders.

These radio waves can penetrate moderate weather conditions, such as rain and fog, as well as moderate density foliage, allowing them to see through common obstacles. Radars provide near constant coverage as they scan a property 360° every one to two seconds.

An advantage of thermal cameras is that they produce images based on radiated heat rather than reflected light. All living things and inanimate objects emit some degree of heat naturally, making them apparent to thermal imagers, even if the human eye (or visible spectrum cameras) may not be able to perceive them.

By relying on this emitted heat, thermal cameras yield images with greater scene detail in many challenging conditions, similar to those often encountered in perimeter protection applications. Thermal cameras are a 24/7 monitoring solution, not reliant on external light or favorable conditions.

Detection ranges of one kilometer or more are not uncommon with thermal cameras, making them an effective pairing with radars. Similar to radar, thermal cameras can see through moderate weather and foliage to detect intruders.
