  1. CCTV Systems in Edinburgh to Undergo £650k Upgrade Programme

Comments Off on CCTV Systems in Edinburgh to Undergo £650k Upgrade Programme

Edinburgh’s aging CCTV systems are likely to receive a much-needed spruce-up as part of a £650,000 investment programme, a recent news report in the local media has been able to suggest.

Edinburgh’s ageing CCTV system is set to receive a £650,000 makeover to accompany a host of new digital ideas across the city.

The council is exploring the use of current technologies and data systems to turn Edinburgh into a “smart city” in the future. The city’s updated CCTV network will likely be a key component of that upgrade.

The new set-up will introduce talking cameras that allow operators to speak to pedestrians, smart lampposts containing cameras to live stream the scene of an accident to a doctor to offer medical advice and on-street sensors to better monitor carbon emissions.

The council’s current CCTV network covers much of Edinburgh and is designed to provide security and maintain public safety. However, the system has reached the end of its life expectancy, with contracts due to run out in July, so the smart city concept is seen as a suitable replacement.

Depute council leader Cammy Day commented: “We are developing a smart city strategy and trying to get the best brains of the city together to have that discussion about what should the smart city look like.

“CCTV is part of that, but it is a substantial investment and is moving from analogue to digital the best thing when we can have remote cameras and a whole range of things?”

  2. Video Management Software (VMS) enables enhanced analytics capabilities, reports number of persons in specific locations

Comments Off on Video Management Software (VMS) enables enhanced analytics capabilities, reports number of persons in specific locations

Knowing how many people are present in a particular location, for instance an area of a retail store, a meeting room or even a public space, is always important, but it’s actually becoming mission-critical nowadays, as Government guidelines suggest that only a limited number of people can actually visit any indoors location at any given time.

Using the powerful Pose Estimation analytic capability embedded in the Video Management Software (VMS) supplied by CCTV Surveillance, an accurate count of how many people are present in a scene can be automatically generated.

This information can then be used by the enhanced Event Rules engine which can be configured to trigger an event should the number of people exceed a preset value.

This data can even be recorded on the Video Management System alongside the camera video to confirm compliance with any regulations that are in force.

  3. CCTV Surveillance Software can help overcome the challenges of remote working

Comments Off on CCTV Surveillance Software can help overcome the challenges of remote working

Remotely-accessible or cloud-based CCTV Surveillance Software can help security professionals better navigate the issues caused by the COVID-19 restrictions and continue to deliver a very high level of service, experts believe.

There already are growing concerns that empty offices are attracting thieves and police have been asked to carry out extra night patrols across empty city and town centres in case there is a surge in break-ins of commercial properties.

However, the surveillance of these empty properties often falls to security personnel who may be self-isolating and therefore cannot often work from their usual office. So, how can security workers ensure the properties they are responsible for are properly protected whilst not being able to access the property itself?

It is a well-known fact that technology is at the core of the surveillance industry. Any property with a number of cameras will have a strong server and software to support footage, and a security professional will have a thorough and deep understanding of the architecture of this set up.

The majority of properties will have a surveillance system linked to a central, on-site computer, meaning it is impossible to access vital security footage remotely. A strong video management system (VMS) will be meticulously set up with the right hardware and software, usually specific and bespoke to that individual property and its needs – and always be stored on-site.

Cloud-based technologies have been adopted by other industries more quickly than the security industry – this is usually because, in order to comply with GDPR and Data Protection laws, footage must remain secure, and the cloud has the reputation of being hackable and insecure. However, the Cloud is evolving to ensure that footage can be securely accessed remotely.

CCTV Surveillance – experts in designing and deploying comprehensive surveillance solutions

CCTV Surveillance has a very comprehensive level of expertise in the field of security installations, delivering high-quality, bespoke installations, designed to perfectly match the customers’ needs.

One of the main features of our CCTV systems is that they are integrated to work with a standard PC monitor via sophisticated CCTV software that allows individual users to set their own criteria for viewing selected footage from particular CCTV cameras within the network. Password and security features limit the viewing of certain cameras to specific groups of people, enabling you to securely manage who is able to see particular areas of activity.

The CCTV software enables “live” footage to be viewed remotely from any or all connected CCTV cameras as events happen and without degradation of video quality, allowing you to monitor your premises when offsite.

Its site tree facility allows servers and individual cameras to be accessed quickly, and the inclusion of the multi-site viewing facility makes the management of sites more efficient and responses to events even quicker.

Remote management of your CCTV network via LAN, WAN, or the internet is also possible through the CCTV software. Historical footage can be viewed remotely, and DVR setup parameters can be configured.

Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras aimed at recognizing vehicles linked with criminal activity are set to be installed across Rushcliffe, a recent news report in the local media has been able to suggest.

Nottinghamshire Police force has spent more than £500,000 installing automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras across the county as part of its proactive approach to catching criminals.

The cameras scan the number plates of passing vehicles and checking it against a database which has listed on it vehicles of interest.

Police officers can then intercept and stop a vehicle, check it for evidence and, where necessary, make arrests.

Nottinghamshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Paddy Tipping commented:

“ANPR cameras help the police to catch a lot of criminals, which is why I was pleased to agree the additional funding for these new cameras.

“The message to offenders is simple – ‘don’t risk it’! These new cameras have been strategically placed to capture information on vehicles travelling on key routes in Rushcliffe and together with other initiatives; we are targeting those committing crimes such as burglary and vehicle crime which is what residents have said they want to see.”

  8. New CCTV surveillance camera system to be deployed at Derbyshire park

Comments Off on New CCTV surveillance camera system to be deployed at Derbyshire park

A new CCTV surveillance camera system is set to be deployed at a Derbyshire car park in order to prevent drug dealing on site, a recent news report in the local media has been able to suggest.

The single camera will be put in place on a tall stalk in Spider Park, on the Hurst Farm estate in Matlock, in an effort to stop further crimes taking place. The site sits next to Castle View Primary School and Nursery and the Matlock Sure Start Children’s Centre.

Marie Schmidt, the council’s estate regeneration manager, wrote: “Local drug dealers are known to use the park to deal drugs.

“Teenagers and adults meet at the park at night and there are also reports of older children bullying younger children.

“This anti-social behaviour and criminal use is causing local residents to be fearful of using the park and it is stopping parents from allowing the children from using the park to play.

“We believe the CCTV camera will act as a deterrent to the anti-social behaviour and would provide evidence if an incident took place.

“There is strong support for this proposal from the local community group on the estate called Friends of Hurst Farm.

“The aim is to create a community park that is a safe space that can be enjoyed safely by all, especially the children.”

  9. New Facial Recognition Technology from Herta Enables Subject Identification Even While Wearing a Mask

Comments Off on New Facial Recognition Technology from Herta Enables Subject Identification Even While Wearing a Mask

CCTV Surveillance partners and leaders in facial recognition solutions for crowded environments, Herta, have recently launched a new version of its facial recognition algorithms that can correctly identify people who wear facial masks.

The company had been working on the issue of partial occlusions for some time and, following the worldwide outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19), development has been accelerated to launch a version of the software that helps provide an accurate identification under these conditions.

Based on Deep Learning technology, Herta’s algorithms provide very high identification rates, especially in identity verification tasks and their reliability is very high, even when people hide a large part of their face. It is worth noting that the most differential part of the human face is in the eye region.

The launch of this software is key for automatic passenger identification systems, such as border control with the passport. This way it will not be necessary for the person to remove the mask, avoiding possible contagion or long waiting times. Its application, in general, extends to any type of access control or identity verification system.

Herta expects that the impact of this new technology in the market will be very important worldwide and that it will be massively used in environments such as transportation, health, government, events, sports stadiums or in the gaming sector.
