  1. There’s one CCTV camera installed for every 11 people in the UK, BSIA survey estimates

Comments Off on There’s one CCTV camera installed for every 11 people in the UK, BSIA survey estimates
A recent survey carried out by the  British Security Industry Association (BSIA) estimated that there are between 4.9 and 5.9 million closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance cameras installed and operational across the UK, which translates into a camera for every 11-14 people.

As a news report on this matter informs us,  the study also revealed that no less than 750,000 surveillance cameras are installed in “sensitive locations” such as schools, hospitals and care homes.

In fact, it is estimated that there are between 291,000 and 373,000 cameras in public sector schools, plus a further 30,000 to 50,000 in independent schools. Furthermore, surgeries and health centres have an estimated 80,000 to 159,000, while there are believed to be between 53,000 and 159,000 cameras in restaurants, the report said.

Simon Adcock, of the BSIA, said: “This study represents the most comprehensive and up to date study undertaken into the number of CCTV cameras in use in the UK. Because there is no single reliable source of data no number can ever be held as truly accurate however the middle of our range suggests that there are around five million cameras.

”Effective CCTV schemes are an invaluable source of crime detection and evidence for the police. For example, in 2009 95 per cent of Scotland Yard murder cases used CCTV footage as evidence,” Mr. Adcock added.

CCTV Surveillance delivers both the advanced products and the set of skills required to match the customer’s exact requirements, while also keeping well within the budget limits. 2. Liverpool CCTV surveillance unit touted as being the best in Europe

Comments Off on Liverpool CCTV surveillance unit touted as being the best in Europe

Liverpool’s CCTV operation is touted as being the best in Europe, despite gradual funding cut-backs over the next couple of years, a news report in the local media reveals.

Over the past year, there had been an overall reduction in crime of 4%, with 825 fewer people reporting being victims of crime. However, while the number of robberies and burglaries decreased, gunfire incidents seems to be on the rise, while the number of victims of violent crimes remained fairly flat.

Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson said that: “While it’s really challenging and tough for us, one of the great successes is our CCTV team. We are using our limited resources well to work to protect our communities.”

Naturally, implementing a solid and reliable closed-circuit television monitoring solution within a set budget (and not a very generous one at that) is not exactly an easy task, but CCTV Surveillance’s extensive experience in this field will ensure the fact that customers get an optimum configuration for their system, while still remaining within the set budget limits.

CCTV Surveillance also touts an extensive experience in providing customers with complete and comprehensive CCTV solutions, that adhere to the highest security standards. In fact, all of our surveillance products are fully compliant with the UK Police Requirements.

One of the main features of our CCTV systems is that they are integrated to work with a standard PC monitor via sophisticated CCTV software that allows individual users to set their own criteria for viewing selected footage from particular CCTV cameras within the network. Password and security features limit the viewing of certain cameras to specific groups of people, enabling you to securely manage who is able to see particular areas of activity.

The CCTV software enables “live” footage to be viewed remotely from any or all connected CCTV cameras as events happen and without degradation of video quality, allowing you to monitor your premises when offsite.

Its site tree facility allows servers and individual cameras to be accessed quickly, and the inclusion of the multi-site viewing facility makes the management of sites more efficient and responses to events even quicker.

Remote management of your CCTV network via LAN, WAN, or the internet is also possible through the CCTV software. Historical footage can be viewed remotely, and DVR setup parameters can be configured.

  3. HMIC report outlines interoperability problems in public CCTV surveillance

Comments Off on HMIC report outlines interoperability problems in public CCTV surveillance

A recent report released by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) and HM Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate (HMCPSI) revealed that, while significant effort has been made in recent years to improve efficiency in both the custody and criminal justice process, there are still a number of issues identified in past reports on this subject which continue to generate delays in processing cases.

The report, officially named “Stop the Drift 2: A Continuing Focus on 21st Century Criminal Justice“ points out, among other factors, the difficulty the police and courts have dealing with CCTV and the number of different formats.

CCTV Surveillance has a very comprehensive level of expertise in the field of security installations, delivering high-quality, bespoke installations, designed to perfectly match the customers’ needs. Moreover, all of our solutions adhere to the highest security standards, since all of our surveillance products are fully compliant with the UK Police Requirements.

The surveillance solutions developed by CCTV Surveillance are built around a dedicated software application that allows individual users to set their own criteria for viewing selected footage from particular CCTV cameras within the network. Password and security features limit the viewing of certain cameras to specific groups of people, enabling you to securely manage who is able to see particular areas of activity.

Footage can be captured at a rate of up to 25 frames per second – the same rate as that of the PAL standard for commercial video playback – however, this often leads to the generation of large image files. The software enables you to adjust the frame rate allowing you to retain evidence quality CCTV footage whilst reducing the amount of memory required for each video clip.

Built-in MPEG-4 support provides simultaneous viewing of both JPEG and MPEG-4 video streams, allowing the user to optimize bandwidth usage on constrained networks.

A straight forward drag and drop GUI, together with saved screen views provide the user with an easy to use viewing solution, offering a seamless single user interface to all connected products.

  4. Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire CCTV monitoring teams set for merger

Comments Off on Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire CCTV monitoring teams set for merger

As they’re faced with seemingly never-ending budget cuts, borough councils have started to look for all sorts of creative methods that would enable them to save money, but it in the same time keep in place vital services, such as public CCTV surveillance.

That’s also the case with Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire borough councils, who’ve revealed plans to merge the team which monitors Cambridge’s CCTV cameras with its counterpart in Huntingdonshire, a news report in the local media reveals.

The link-up would reduce combined running costs by about £200,000 annually, but, unfortunately, unifying the teams will also means that several members of staff are likely to be rendered redundant. The cameras around Cambridge would actually be watched at Huntingdonshire District Council’s headquarters rather than at the Guildhall.

This plan comes about 18 months after the city council stopped live monitoring of images during quieter periods after members judged the deterrent effect of CCTV was based on the possibility that somebody might be watching. Naturally, safety fears were raised, but borough leaders said the annual cost of Cambridge’s cameras – then £850,000 – had to come down.

  6. Drivers sticking tape over number plates in order to avoid fines

Comments Off on Drivers sticking tape over number plates in order to avoid fines

Parents dropping of their kids at a school at Woodside Primary School, in Grays, are apparently sticking tape over their plate numbers in order to avoid being photographed by a Thurrock Council CCTV car and subsequently fined.

As a news report on this matter reveals, during its first month of operation, the camera-equipped car led to 30 penalty charges being served for illegal parking. The car was launched on the borough’s streets in March in a bid to tackle dangerous parking outside schools and improve safety.

For this reason, some of the parents dropping their kids at the Woodside school have decided to tackle this problem in a rather illegal manner, namely by placing tape over their license plate numbers in order to avoid identification.

A police spokesman said: “We’ve been made aware of this problem and are investigating. Not displaying a valid number plate is an offence. If anyone has any information on these incidents, please let officers at Grays Police Station know.”

  7. Trouble-free pubs will no longer be forced to install CCTV systems

Comments Off on Trouble-free pubs will no longer be forced to install CCTV systems

Following some serious concerns from pub owners and privacy advocates that surveillance cameras were becoming a legal condition of every license as a matter of course, the Government has revealed the fact that pubs in England and Wales with no history of trouble will no longer be forced by local authorities to install CCTV systems.

According to a news report on the matter, the Department for Communities and Local Government is to issue new guidance to licensing authorities, preventing them for listing a CCTV system on the list of pre-requisite licensing conditions.

The new code of practice is aimed at encouraging police and local authorities to consider whether putting in new cameras is “appropriate” in all cases.

Community Pubs Minister Brandon Lewis said: “CCTV has a role to play in stopping and deterring crime in anti-social behaviour hotspots. But well-run community pubs that don’t have a public order problem shouldn’t be tarred with the same brush.”

Quite obviously, this move is quite a welcomed one, especially for those public houses that don’t really have a record of anti-social behaviour. However, the truth of the matter is that, while installing CCTV systems in pubs is no longer mandatory, it’s still a good idea for owners, given the fact that, unfortunately, trouble might occasionally appear even in the most quiet and peaceful locations.

And this is specifically where CCTV Surveillance can really help, since we offer a solid level of experience in setting up latest-generation digital HD video cameras in virtually any location.

The cameras we use offer very good quality, high-resolution images, even in low-light conditions, while our infra-red cameras also enable great visibility during night-time, an increasingly popular feature within the CCTV segment.

  8. London transport crime is going down, Tube violence on the rise

Comments Off on London transport crime is going down, Tube violence on the rise

A new report drawn up by sources in the security industry points out that, although the level of crime across the London transport network has dropped significantly, violence on the London Underground is, unfortunately, on the rise.

New annual data from the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) and British Transport Police shows crime across Transport for London’s (TfL’s) network dropped in total by 2.3 per cent compared to last year.

On the other hand, the figures show that violence on the London Underground and Docklands Light Railway has increased, with crime rising by 5.7 per cent year-on-year but remaining at its lowest-ever level at 9.6 crimes per million passenger journeys.

This is exactly the reason why the presence of CCTV cameras across the London Underground and all public transport means is a very good idea, and that’s exactly where CCTV Surveillance can really prove its extensive expertise.

CCTV Surveillance has a very comprehensive level of expertise in the field of security installations and we offer an extensive set of Digital CCTV Body Cameras and Lenses, including here Digital CCTV Bullet Cameras designed specifically for situations when space and price are very important factors, Digital CCTV Covert Cameras, that can be easily hidden within a variety of locations, as well as Infra-red CCTV Cameras, that are very popular due to their ability to see in ‘absolute darkness’.

  9. Home Office reveals new code of practice on the use of CCTV

Comments Off on Home Office reveals new code of practice on the use of CCTV

Following a number of high-profile cases, as well as concerns raised by citizen groups and organizations, the Home Office has decided to issues a reviewed and revised code of practice regarding the use of surveillance cameras in public venues.

According to a news article on the matter, this new set of rules and guidelines will require police forces using ANPR (automatic number place recognition) solutions to put up signs on major routes warning they are in use.

Furthermore, the Home Office ministers announced that, while they support use of overt CCTV systems in public places where there was a legitimate purpose for them, they’ve also implemented specific measures in the new code in order to prevent them for being used in order to raise revenue for local authorities.

They’ve also revealed the fact that the new code of practice will feature specific provisions for local authorities, designed to prevent them from requiring the installation of CCTV systems as an automatic part of the licensing processes for public venues or taxis.

CCTV Surveillance delivers both the advanced products and the set of skills required to match the customer’s exact requirements, while also keeping well within the budget limits. 10. CCTV cameras in Exmouth shop disabled by intruders

Comments Off on CCTV cameras in Exmouth shop disabled by intruders

Although considered quite a serious deterrent against thefts, it would seem that more and more criminals are learning how to circumvent CCTV security cameras installed on the premises of shopping estates and businesses.

That was also the case in Exmouth, where intruders broke into a pet shop, covering up CCTV cameras in the process. According to a news report on the matter, the raiders also moved the cameras inside the shop itself, in order to point away from them and thus keep their identities concealed.

On the other hand, thieves actually didn’t touch a thing within the shop, as stock, cash, pets and computer equipment was untouched. Apparently, the reason for that is that workers arriving at a nearby bakery may have disturbed the intruders, according to police reports.

This case proves only too well that standard CCTV surveillance solutions are starting to become obsolete, so installing covert cameras, designed to blend in with the environment and barely noticeable, might actually be a better idea.

CCTV Surveillance has an extensive experience in installing covert cameras, whether we’re talking about Digital CCTV Bullet Cameras or Digital CCTV Covert Cameras.

The bullet cameras are cameras mounted in a cylindrical or “bullet” casing, that makes them easy to install when pointing them in the right direction, and keeps the case compact. Their compact size and inbuilt lens make them ideal for situations where space and price are key.

The covert cameras are tiny devices that can be hidden in places such as smoke alarms, enabling user to spy on perpetrators and catch them in the act.

CCTV Surveillance are committed to bringing you exactly what you demand of your CCTV system. We use a range of devices and accessories from top manufacturers and can uniquely customise your CCTV system around your requirements.
