CCTV surveillance systems to tackle crime around 11 bus stops in Stoke-on-Trent

A local council has revealed plans to install 11 new CCTV camera systems around local bus stops in a bid to improve passengers’ safety and reduce incidents of vandalism.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council will use cash from the Department of Transport’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund to pay for the cameras, which will cost around £3,000 each. The cameras will be placed at stops along the Hanley to Keele bus route.

Councillor Ruth Rosenau, cabinet member for transport, said the cameras would help improve safety for passengers.

She added: “Safety is our number one priority and we are installing CCTV cameras at 11 bus stops, between Keele University and the city centre.

“This will compliment the wifi and real-time passenger information that we will be providing on this route.”

According to Staffordshire Police there are no particular issues with crime or anti-social behaviour at bus stops along the Hanley-to-Keele route. However, the force said it welcomed any community projects which help residents feel safe.

Town council to help fund CCTV Surveillance system

A local authority has decided to assist financially to maintain the CCTV surveillance in the town, a recent news report in the local media was able to reveal.

Colwyn Bay Town Council has agreed to contribute nearly £9,000 a year to the £32,000 a year it costs to maintain the cameras.

There are currently 32 cameras across the Bay of Colwyn, which is five more than Llandudno and 12 more than Conwy.

Colwyn Bay town centre has 22 cameras, which recorded 1,324 incidents last year, and each of the cameras costs £4,483 a year to operate. Care home staff supports the use of CCTV, report reveals

An overwhelming majority of care home staff would support the use of CCTV in an attempt to stamp out care home abuse and neglect, a recent survey carried out by HC-One was able to reveal.

Over 12,000 residents, their relatives and care home staff took part in the survey which found that 68% of all respondents were in favour of introducing visible cameras in care homes.

There are concerns surrounding privacy and who has access to the footage while HC-One’s chairman, Dr Chai Patel commented that: ‘The results of this consultation are vitally important in initiating an industry-wide debate on the matter. Arun District Council to continue support for CCTV system in the area

Underwater CCTV cameras to be installed in Moray swimming pools

Swimming pools in Moray are set to be fitted with underwater CCTV surveillance cameras as part of the local council’s initiative to improve safety and cut costs, a recent news report in the local media was able to reveal.
