  1. Massive Facial Recognition CCTV system could be deployed across New York

Comments Off on Massive Facial Recognition CCTV system could be deployed across New York

A massive Facial Recognition CCTV system could be deployed at all the bridges and tunnels around New York, a news report has been able to suggest.

A memo from the Metropolitan Transit Authority’s Bridges and Tunnels division, obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, shows that on December 12, the MTA put out a call to an unknown group of private vendors of surveillance equipment. The proposed system would both scan drivers as they approached or crossed most of the city’s bridges and tunnels at high speeds, and would also capture and pair those photos with the license plates of their cars.

All seven of the MTA’s bridges and both its tunnels are named in the proposal. New York City is home to more than 2,000 bridges and tunnels, which are owned by various agencies, including the New York City and state’s Departments of Transportation and Amtrak.

New York City wouldn’t be the first in the U.S. to have a network of facial recognition cameras for law enforcement. In 2013, for instance, the Los Angeles Police Department admitted it had deployed 16 cameras equipped with face recognition software, designed to search for particular suspects. But the most prominent known system is in Moscow, which attempted to pair hundreds of thousands of CCTV cameras with advanced facial recognition software.

CCTV Surveillance – Experts in Deploying Facial Recognition CCTV systems

The Facial Recognition CCTV solution supplied by CCTV Surveillance dynamically compares images of individuals from incoming video streams against those stored in a predefined access control list and immediately sends alerts when a positive match occurs.

The technology yields a very good level of performance despite partial occlusions of the face, the use of glasses, scarves or caps, changes of facial expression, and moderate rotations of the face. Moreover, it does not allow users to be impersonated using photographs.

This biometric technology is the perfect solution to control the access to restricted security areas, especially since we’re talking about a completely automated system that requires very little interaction with the operator.

Our Facial Recognition CCTV system can be easily integrated with existing ID management products and enables administrators to easily create Whitelists/Blacklists for specific areas, while subjects can be very easily enrolled from one or more photographs.

The system fully supports runtime alarm management, is highly tunable (control based on time-frames, sequentially, etc) and even allows alarms to be exported to common formats (PDF, Excel) and remote devices (mobile, PDA, tablet, security control centre).

The CCTV Surveillance Face Recognition CCTV solution enables superior management options for all surveillance and security databases, enabling higher productivity via faster searches and identifications with this user-friendly system and will pay for itself by reducing losses and increasing bottom line profits.

  2. New CCTV surveillance hub in Dundee to be more proactive, clamp down on anti-social behaviour

Comments Off on New CCTV surveillance hub in Dundee to be more proactive, clamp down on anti-social behaviour

A new CCTV surveillance hub being currently set up in Dundee will help improve the resident’s safety and possibly reduce the level of damage to the council’s property, local authorities hope.

Work is currently under way at the new £750,000 Safety and Alarm Centre, set to open at the West Housing Office at Sinclair Street, which has been described as more “proactive than anything that has gone before”.

It will bring footage from property-related council CCTV cameras — of which there are about 1,000 — under one roof.

The cameras will be monitored by staff at all times in an effort to stop antisocial behaviour and clamp down on vandals targeting council buildings.

Operators will be able to talk directly to culprits through speakers in a bid to make them to stop — while mobile responders will be able to take action.

Staff will monitor cameras across council properties in Dundee, including the 11 multi-storey blocks and the vehicle depot at Marchbanks, which has been the scene of a number of incidents of vandalism over the last year which had cost the council “vital funds”.

  3. New National CCTV Surveillance Camera Strategy for England and Wales endorsed by the BSIA

Comments Off on New National CCTV Surveillance Camera Strategy for England and Wales endorsed by the BSIA

The British Security Industry Association has recently endorsed the national CCTV surveillance camera strategy for England and Wales set out by Surveillance Camera Commissioner, Tony Porter, a report reveals.

The strategy aims to provide direction and leadership in the surveillance camera community to enable system operators to understand good and best practice and their legal obligations (such as those contained within the Protection of Freedoms Act, Data Protection Act and Private Security Industry Act).

It is the Commissioner’s strategic vision to ensure the public are assured that any use of surveillance camera systems in a public place helps to protect and keep them safe, whilst respecting the individual’s right to privacy. That assurance is based upon deployment which is proportionate to a legitimate purpose, and transparency which demonstrates compliance with best and good practice and relevant legal obligations.

The strategy aligns closely to the Home Office responsibilities to keep the UK safe from the threat of terrorism and to reduce and prevent crime and ensure people feel safe in their homes and communities.

It will provide the Commissioner with a robust and transparent framework to fulfil his statutory functions as set out in the Protection of Freedoms Act, informing his Annual Report to the Home Secretary.

James Kelly, Chief Executive of the BSIA, comments: “The strategy is a very worthy and successful attempt to draw together the multiple stakeholders across a diverse and critically important sector. The BSIA is proud to have been a contributor to the Commissioner’s efforts at providing direction and leadership on the appropriate use of such systems to secure the protection of our communities whilst protecting individuals’ rights to privacy.

“I am delighted to endorse the strategy and will continue to support the Commissioner’s work on standards and best practice in this vital part of the UK economy,” said Mr Kelly.

  4. CCTV surveillance systems with video analytics capabilities to play major role in fighting crime

Comments Off on CCTV surveillance systems with video analytics capabilities to play major role in fighting crime

CCTV surveillance systems featuring enhanced video analytics capabilities will become the solutions of choice for driving drown crime across the world, experts in the field believe.

Live video analytics software deliver a more efficient, focused and in-depth analysis of suspicious activities, meaning that they can easily identify potential suspicious behavior in scenes and objects being observed much faster than their human counterparts.

By embedding video analytics in the CCTV surveillance system the end users can use it for specific data analysis and actionable intelligence for functions such as safety, health, personnel management and even marketing.

Video Analytics provides advanced video surveillance and situational awareness, enabling security data to be managed and shared effectively by CCTV systems and other security devices such as motion detectors, sensors and alarms. It establishes safer living conditions and fast response to encountered threat in the event of a security problem or emergent situations. The goal of video analytics in CCTV systems is to refine the video data to collect and squeeze relevant information for analysis and if required take needful actions fostering threat protection and deterrence enabling proactive response and keen situational awareness.

Video analytics software reviews the mass surveillance video that a security guard or system manager may never even bother to watch. The analytical surveillance system is as useful as the incidents captured and watched, and video analytics will help find the hidden and missed safety loops. One misconception about analytics is that they are considered as just advanced motion detectors. The intelligence in analytics systems offers massive reductions in false alarm generations compared to standard motion detectors.

  6. Met Police fails to use CCTV surveillance footage at its full potential, former detective argues

Comments Off on Met Police fails to use CCTV surveillance footage at its full potential, former detective argues

The Met Police is not using the numerous CCTV surveillance systems installed across London at their full potential, a former detective chief inspector has revealed.

Former detective Mick Neville said that CCTV images were found in less than two per cent of cases in London during eight months last year, as images were not routinely collected by police.

Of 515,193 crimes recorded by the Met between April and November, CCTV images were found in 9,745 cases. A total of 84,035 offences were solved, including 1,629 with the help of CCTV. There were also 15,330 robberies in the same period. The Met solved 1,515 of these, but only 64 using CCTV.

Mr Neville said: “The Met has the best system in the world for identifying suspects who are caught on camera in connection with crimes but it is not getting the images.

“All these cameras are on and capturing images of suspects, but they are not being used to anything like their full potential.”

  7. CCTV camera system do be installed at Seaton car park in a bid to tackle illegal racing

Comments Off on CCTV camera system do be installed at Seaton car park in a bid to tackle illegal racing

A new CCTV camera system will be installed at a Seaton car park as part of the local authority’s efforts to tackle the problem of boy racers in the area, a media news report has been able to suggest.

East Devon District Council (EDDC) has made the decision to install the new CCTV camera system in the Underfleet car park after repeated complaints from members of the public.

EDDC officer Andrew Ennis said that complaints about vehicle-related anti-social behaviour in the car park came to a head in 2015, which resulted in meetings and a decision to install car park barriers.

However, anti-social behavior is not confined to evenings as there have been reported cases on Saturday afternoons, potentially putting families and other car park users at risk.

It is hoped that the installation of CCTV will reduce the number of complaints even further.

Seaton mayor Marcus Hartnell supports the installation of CCTV, and said: “Stamping out anti-social behaviour at the Underfleet car park has to be a priority, and this is a positive step towards that aim.”
