Welsh government provides funding for installing CCTV systems in abattoirs

Although it’s not a legal requirement, Welsh slaughterhouse owners can now install new CCTV systems in their facilities or upgrade/improve their existing ones courtesy of a £1.1m funding package provided by the local government, a recent news report has been able to suggest.

Only eight out of 26 slaughterhouses in Wales currently have CCTV systems installed, but the owners of small and medium-sized slaughterhouses now say that they feel forced to introduce the cameras nonetheless, in order to gain from the grant funding.

A spokesperson for the Welsh Government added: “CCTV installation and upgrade is one of a number of investments that will be eligible for funding but a full list has yet to be finalised.”
