A local council is considering deploying ANPR cameras to deter motorists from illegally driving down the local High Street, a news report has been able to find.
Currently, some motorists regularly flout regulations, which specify no access between 10am and 4pm. Some drivers go the wrong way up the one-way street in Uttoxeter.
Helen Gill, county council district commissioning lead for East Staffordshire, said that a number of options were being looked at and there would ‘hopefully be some news soon’.
She said: “The borough council, police and I are having discussions about the bollard and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) is one of the options on the table.”
An East Staffordshire Borough Council spokesman said: “As Staffordshire County Council is the authority responsible for highways, East Staffordshire Borough Council, like everyone else, is awaiting their proposals for the future of the bollards in both Uttoxeter and Burton.”
