A number of Irish TDs have argued that deploying CCTV surveillance systems in areas located in the close proximity of motorways could help reduce rural crime, a recent news report in the local media has been able to find.
This comes as Nenagh in Co Tipperary recently began using a state-of-the-art CCTV system which already helped reduce crime levels in the area.
The security cameras have been installed in cooperation with local businesses and funded by the local authority. District Administrator of Nenagh Municipal District, Rosemary Joyce, said: “The total cost was in the region of €75 thousand and we feel it was very cost-effective.
“The fact that it took a number of years to actually complete worked in our favour because the prices went down and the quality of the equipment went up.”
There are 16 new CCTV cameras dotted around Nenagh and there have already been a number of prosecutions for people for criminal activity.
