Several new and efficient CCTV cameras are set to be installed in the town of Hawick, located in the Scottish Borders, as part of a new public space surveillance project worth almost £11,000, a news source has been able to reveal.
The majority of the £10,940 cost will be met from Hawick’s Quality of Life budget with has around £5,235 uncommitted funding and will be topped up from the pay-and-display budget which sits at £6,700.
Hawick currently have seven CCTV cameras which were installed in 2014 following an insurance claim after a lightning strike and other parts of the existing system are from the original installation which is almost 20 years old.
