CCTV to be used for catching Marsden card skimmers

A video surveillance system will be used in an attempt to catch thieves behind card machine “skimming” attempts at a store in Marsden, a news report in the local media has revealed.

Fraudsters placed metal devices and recorders at the ATM Cash machine located in the wall of the Co-operative store on Peel Street in Marsden. However, a keen-eyed resident removed the metal skimmer — a device placed over the real card entry slot — and camera recording equipment from inside and on top of the machine and alerted the police.

The skimming device retains the card and the customer thinks the ATM is faulty.

It was the third similar incident to take place at the site, which was initially targeted twice in one week in February. Valleys police inspector Mark Trueman said that he cannot rule out the possibility that all three incidents are linked and said that no arrests were made in February.

He said: “We are now in the process of looking at CCTV to try to find out more information as part of our investigation.
