Plans to implement Cumbria wide CCTV network to go under scrutiny

Plans drawn up by police forces regarding the introduction of a Cumbria wide CCTV system are set to go under scrutiny during a top-level crime-fighting meeting at the start of December, a news report in the local media has revealed.

Cumbria’s crime commissioner, Richard Rhodes, and the county’s chief constable, Bernard Lawson, will carry out a careful analysis of the plans for a system that would run more than 50 cameras from the county’s police force headquarters.

Firm details have yet to emerge publicly about the nature of the network, the costs and where the cameras would go. A spokeswoman for the office of the commissioner said: “The executive board in December is expected to make a decision on CCTV for a county-wide approach.”
