Public CCTV system in Fishguard to be scrapped due to lack of funding

The CCTV system in Fishguard is set to be shut down completely after town councillors deemed it too expensive to maintain and replace, a news report in the media has revealed.

The CCTV surveillance system in the area is paid for by the town council, who shares responsibility for the system’s maintenance with the police. However, recent cuts in police budgets left the council unable to fully support the operational costs, estimated at £5,000.

Furthermore, the cameras have not been working properly for about 18 months and the council simply doesn’t have the necessary funds to carry out the necessary upgrade operations.

Naturally, some of the councillors have already raised concerns that crime and anti-social behaviour could rise as a result of the system being scrapped.
