Anyone caught littering in Preston, Lancashire, via the CCTV cameras worn by council street cleaners, can be issued with a fixed penalty fine of £80, a news report reveals.

 

More than 2,200 tonnes of litter and fly-tipped rubbish is dropped in Preston every year, which costs around £2m a year to clean up. So, in order to save money, the Council waste enforcement bosses  have decided to tackle this problem head-on, using footage recorded by the portable CCTV cameras council cleaners were issued with around four years ago.
